Octagon were asked to convert a new client’s house in Gerrards Cross into a Smart Home by integrating his existing technology with some brand new AV equipment. The property was about to undergo renovation works, so the client took the chance to call us in to help modernise his home.
Our initial contact with the client was a brief phone call to have an informal chat about the project, which led to us booking a site survey with our expert AV surveyor. The site visit gave us a chance to speak with him in greater detail about his building works and the vision he has for his new smart home. After doing a thorough survey of his property, our surveyor sat down with the client to look over his architectural drawings and plan his new AV systems together.
Once a plan is created with a customer, our surveyor returns to the office and begins the specification process. All of our quotes and specs are sent in a jargon-free, customer friendly document because we like our customers to know exactly what they’re getting and what they can expect from Octagon. In this case, he was pleased with his specification and gave us the go-ahead to transform his home into a hub of smart home technology!
We were tasked with installing some new home entertainment equipment in the form of multi room music and HD TV distribution systems. The speakers were required to bring music to the kitchen and outdoor patio area, as well as to give the family room’s TV area a high quality Monitor Audio 5.1 surround sound system. We decided to install Polk Audio’s ‘Atrium Garden System’ for the outdoor area so that the speakers could blend in with the landscaping of the garden, where they can continue to be heard and not seen.
Our customer was keen to introduce Control4 home automation to integrate with his Nest heating, Luxaflex blinds, and also provide control of an interior smart lighting system. Being Gold status authorised dealers of Control4 products we have access to their full range of automation systems, meaning we could tailor the perfect system for our client’s requirements. We fitted a mixture of touchscreens and lighting keypads throughout the property, to provide control of everything from their lighting, to the custom installed ceiling speakers, and even the home’s TV.
Throughout the project we worked closely with the electrical contractor on site, providing wiring drawings and instructions, supplying the cable required and liaising throughout the cabling process, culminating in a final sign off to check all the cables were correctly run. This provided an element of future-proofing the house for any future additions that the client may require as well as ensuring the required wiring was correctly positioned and labelled.
